I was introduced to the movie by Beashi on Friday 17 July 2020 her time and Saturday 18 July, 2020 my time.
What I liked
For decades, Ralph has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends including feisty misfit Vanellope von Schweetz. Then, when an evil enemy threatens their world, Ralph realizes he holds the fate of the entire arcade in his massive hands.
Spoiler alert:
I absolutely LOVE this movie. I love the brother-sister relationship between Ralph and Vanellope and how their personalities are different, but similar at the same time. He’s destructive and she’s creative, he’s big and strong while she’s small and adorable. But they both have a good sense of humor and they’re both willing to save each other, which is proven when Ralph nearly sacrifices himself, but Vanellope rushes in and saves him.
I feel like Ralph and Vanellope, even though they’re very different, are very relatable at the same time. They both feel like outcasts and that life is unfair, but realise they are fine just the way they are and have a place in their world, and the others around them learn that too.
The humor is just perfect and doesn’t focus on cheesy, cliché humor that’s been used over and over. There are moments that want to make you cry, and it leaves you feeling so good and warm and fuzzy inside at the end. I think that there might have been some dust in the air as I found myself tearing up during some of the scenes.
Two thumbs up! This will be an all-time favorite for me!
What I didn’t like
One thing I didn’t like about the ending was that the Sugar Rush characters apologized to Vanellope once they remembered she was a princess. I would’ve liked it more if they had apologized before she turned back into a princess as it would have been more sincere. And I would’ve liked to see Mayor Gene apologize to Ralph.
Finally, I do not like the part when King Candy/Turbo becomes a virus.
